Rioja Gran Reserva Cedula Real 2014
Smooth oak and floral aromas back red-berry fruit scents on a convincing nose. A dry palate with pulling tannins holds woody flavors of toast, baking spice, red plum and currant. There's power and length to the finish, which also provides vanilla and coffee notes. The 2014 vintage wasn't a good one in Rioja but this gran reserva is showing well. Drink through 2030.

Produced by Eguren Ugarte
The grapes for the production of Eguren Ugarte wines come from vineyards of the clay and calcareous soils of Labastida, Páganos, Leza and Elciego, in the heart of the Rioja Alavesa. A north-south orientation is sought and they are driven on high trellises, thus ensuring greater exposure to the sun. The vineyards are not irrigated - they depend entirely on the weather conditions.
Their vineyards are more than 50 years old and located at altitudes of around 600-700m, with particular microclimates favourable for the production of quality grapes.
In recent years, the winery has opted for new grape varieties for the production of monovarietal whites and reds, and for this it has bought farms in the most optimal areas of soil and climate with the aim of obtaining the best grapes of the planted varieties.
