Association of Catering Excellence (ACE) is delighted to work with Richard on a regular basis. He has introduced key note speakers for events and spoken himself with knowledge and passion at our flagship annual ACE Wine Dinner on several occasions. At our recent wine dinner at Painters’ Hall he introduced some fabulous wines from South Africa and helped to make the evening a stand out success. I thoroughly recommend his services.
Richard’s journey into wine started at a young age. His Grandparents were winegrowers in Somerset and he loved the family gatherings during the annual harvest. The seed of interest grew into a more serious quest for wine knowledge with regular trips to France in his late teens and from there a love of all things vinous (and food) related was well and truly born. He founded a wine merchant in 1996 which he ran for more than 18 years before merging with another merchant. Richard is Commercial Director of Vintage Cellars as well as owner of Brompton Wines and founder of the Cambarn Dining Club.
There is nothing he enjoys more than sharing his knowledge and passion for wine. He strongly believes that wine is to be enjoyed by all and he is generally fed up with stuffy and arrogant approach of most wine courses.
He is very widely travelled and has strong links with independent growers from all over the world – from the famous regions in France through to small growers in Tasmania and South Africa.
These days when he isn’t selling wine or talking about wine, you might find him travelling around vineyards with his trusted tasting companion – Bella the Hungarian Vizsla!
The Club was born to continue Richard’s quest to find the best wines to accompany the best food. The missing ingredient? Friends. Yes, corny and clichéd but what makes a great evening is the company you share it with. No networking, no cliques, no pretentiousness, no complaining, no singing. Just like-minded high calibre people who want to enjoy themselves with absolutely no agenda.
